Overview:
The Senior Epidemiologist will provide expert technical advice and consultation to the Global Disease Detection and Response Program (GDDRP) program on Epidemiology, Public Health, and Infection Control and provide input on the design, and implementation of public health programs in Egypt, Jordan and countries in the Middle East, North and West Africa. The Senior Epidemiologist will initiate, design, develop, implement, manage, and evaluate independent and collaborative research and public health programs in areas to include, infection control, blood‐borne pathogen transmission, respiratory infections, surveillance of hospital‐acquired infections and antimicrobial resistance and the prevention and control of other infectious diseases.

Responsibilities:
The Senior Epidemiologist will be responsible for meeting the following objectives:
• Serve as the epidemiologic consultant and senior scientist to GDDRP by reviewing the development, implementation, and progress of public health programs related to surveillance, epidemiology, prevention and infection control.
• Coordinate the development of reports and manuscripts to document the achievements of program’s goals.
• Provide scientific direction to existing and future public health projects. S/he will coordinate the planning, grant protocol development, Scientific and Institutional Review Boards submissions, and operation of new program goals.
• Design, develop, initiate, and manage independent and collaborative research and public health projects in various areas of infection control, blood‐borne pathogen transmission, surveillance of severe respiratory infections, surveillance of hospital-acquired infections and antimicrobial resistance, and other infectious disease prevention and control.
• Coordinate the regional Eastern Mediterranean Acute Respiratory Infection Surveillance (EMARIS) network of the severe acute respiratory infections
• Actively direct all phases of the projects, including the preparation and implementation of research protocols, program guidelines and training plans.
• Prepare and present reports/presentations, posters, and manuscripts on the progress and/or results of research for submission to international scientific conferences and meetings for GDDRP
• Develop, establish and manage regional activities such as Severe Acute Respiratory Infection Surveillance, Surveillance of hospital‐acquired infections, antimicrobial resistance, and hepatitis in the Middle East and North Africa.
• Work with epidemiologists, laboratory scientists and others to develop and maintain surveillance systems for GDDRP research and surveillance projects.
• Advocate for the program in national and international forums, meetings, workshops and conferences.
• Consult with national and international collaborating partners and investigators in developing research agendas and providing feedback to staff related to surveillance and research projects.
• Troubleshoot problems involving surveillance systems and infection control studies.
• Submit weekly, monthly and/or quarterly reports as required by NAMRU‐3, GDDRP, and project sponsors.
