Senior Protection Assistant (SGBV) G5

CONTEXT AND DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The incumbent performs his/her duties under the direct supervision of a Protection Officer who defines overall work objectives and provides necessary advice and guidance. He/she provides quality, timely and effective protection support to persons of concern and identifies opportunities to mainstream protection methodologies and safeguards in operational response. He/she also monitors protection standards, operational procedures and practices in protection delivery in line with international standards.
The incumbent maintains close interaction with staff within Protection Unit as well as with staff in other units within the office and those based in the country office. External contacts are with Project Partners, operational partners, government officials as well as humanitarian actors who collaborate with UNHCR on the prevention and protection against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).
THE INCUMBENT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING ASSIGNED DUTIES:
- Coordination among relevant protection actors is enhanced.
- Adequate referral and response mechanisms are put in place.
- Gender concerns are adequately integrated into and mainstreamed at all levels of the humanitarian response.
- Gaps in response capacity are timely identified and brought to the attention of the Office for remedial actions and planning purposes.
- Effective monitoring and evaluation of UNHCR-funded activities in the area of prevention and protection against SGBV.
- All reporting requirement are met in due time and in accordance with the agreed upon quality standards.
- Conduct interviews with survivors of Sexual and Gender Based Violence to assess and address their needs. Ensure timely documentation, follow-ups, and multi-sectoral response with adherence of the SGBV principles.
- Ensure timely, accurate, and confidential management of physical and electronic SGBV case files and data-entry of protection information and referrals on the proGres database.
- Monitor trend and analyse causes and contributing factors of SGBV to ensure that prevention and protection measures are in place to mitigate the risk of SGBV.
- Provide regular statistics and statistical analysis on SGBV cases and trends, and draft reports correspondences, and notes for the file.
- Initiate and maintain the service mapping of the actors of the SGBV Protection and Prevention in Alexandria AOR.
- Contribute to the development of the SGBV referral pathway and Internal and Inter-Agency SOPs. Monitor the implementation and adherence to SOPs by all the stakeholders.
- Organize sensitisation and awareness raising activities on SGBV for local and refugee communities.
- Contribute to initiatives to enhance national and local protection capacity.
- Assist in the preparations and holdings of meetings related to SGBV, draft meeting minutes, and ensure follow up on recommendations made during the meetings.
- Engage in planning and implementation of activities that contribute to the promotion of gender equality and SGBV prevention.
- Provide protection counselling and participate in individual case management when/if required.
- Enforce integrity in the delivery of protection services by project and operational partners.
- Perform any other relevant duties as requested.
