- The Lead Engineer is responsible for all project related technical and commercial aspects in his discipline.
- Responsible for all equipment design activities, stress analysis, material take-offs, requisitioning of inquiries, technical bid analysis and follow through with the Lead Engineer - Procurement & Logistics to assure that the delivery can meet the requirements of the Construction Schedule. He/she will establish the design criteria and specifications covering fabrication, installation, cleaning, testing, and any other specifications or data required.
- During the Design and Engineering phase of a project, the Lead Discipline Engineer “LDE” is a working lead engineer. Engineers, designers, and CAD operators are assigned to the task force under his direction. He organises his discipline, ensures completeness of the discipline’s Engineering/Design deliverables.
- Prepare of the discipline technical documents and QA/HSE documentation (including vendors/ contractors); discipline job manual (implementation of project requirements including contract review)
- Prepare basis for design for instrumentation.
- Prepare philosophies for control and systems integration.
- Define functional requirements and hardware configuration for control systems.
- Prepare project-specific specifications and data sheets for instruments.
- Prepare instrumentation and controls engineering and design criteria.
- Perform preliminary ergonomic study on the main control room.
- Perform preliminary ergonomic study on the main control room.
- Define instrumentation on the P&IDs.
- Prepare instrument summaries (lists).
- Prepare instrument and control general specifications.
- Prepare preliminary control room, rack room and panel layouts and specifications.
- Participate in 3D-CAD Model review and HAZOP reviews.
- Prepare and issuing requisitions for instrument materials, equipment and subcontracted services.
- Prepare technical bid analyses.
- Review fabrication submittals and supplier data.
- Cost reduction within his discipline to optimize the profit of the project.
- Plan/Actual of man-hours and quantities vs. budget.
- Timely preparation and review of documents including vendor documentation.
- Report variances from budget and contract in terms of time, quality, scope of services and supplies, issue change notification.
- Control of man-hours / quantities within his discipline.
- Consideration of HSE requirement in inter-disciplinary and/or design reviews.
- Assess HSE performance of potential subcontractors in the context of the selection process.
- Verify the compliance with HSE-relevant contractual stipulations by the subcontractors
- Incorporate HSE requirements from authority engineering.
- Prepare of HSE-relevant new information as feedback to the HSE discipline expert.
- Prepare functional descriptions for sequence control safeguarding and complicated control systems.
- Conduct technical bid comparisons and provide recommendations
- Prepare functional descriptions and preliminary functional specifications and data sheets for instrument and control systems and hardware.
- Prepare all detailed design documents required for construction. These include cable schedules, cable drum summaries, termination diagrams, instrument location diagrams, process and pneumatic drawings.
- Coordinate with and incorporating data on instrumentation of packaged units/items and providing the resulting data to other technical disciplines.
- Define requirements for emergency shutdown and depressurising systems including developing cause and effect diagrams and performing reliability studies for shutdown systems.
- Lead/supervise and instructing the supporting teams and interfaces.
